Okay, I've been reading the logs for this site and I've got a couple things to say to a few of you. First--welcome everyone to my digital home! Second--I apologize to the one person who looked up "cookie recipes" and was sent to a back issue of DJSQ where I made a crack about hillary's cookie recipe fiasco in an otherwise pretty perverted article about bill, hillary, tipper, and al on their tour bus. And lastly--sorry but there are no nude pics of tori spelling, farah fawcett, courtney love, gabrielle carteris, drew barrymore, kennedy, or any other celeb you can think of (and some of you can really think of some mindblowing celebs to find nude--i'm just waiting for the day that like someone comes to the site looking for Vic Tayback nude!! and now that day is even closer to coming true cuz that mere mention will index the site under vic tayback nude! so for that one person who came here cuz of that--i salute you...wish i really did have a gif of vic tayback nude for you.) Gotta love search engines! Can't live with them...can't shoot them. And incidentally, I've noticed a lot of people looking for something called "hard, free, sex." I'm not sure what the ahhh punch line is for that...but if there is some hard free sex on this site i'd like to know about it...i might need it some day. So now that I'm deaf from the giant sucking sound of everyone rushing to the door to find the next site the search engines have indexed under nude pics of kristy macnichol...
For those of you that are still here...I've been getting a lot of email lately asking me who the hell Jackie Susann is anyway. I was gonna put together a Jackie FAQ but well I just don't feel that Jackie deserves to be memorialized in such a banal, boring manner so I couldn't do it--instead here's what i recommend for those of you who aren't familiar with the wonderous Jackie S-- buy the kick ass bio of Jackie Susann by Barbara Seaman called Lovely Me which is now going to be back in print from Seven Hills Press. Without Lovely Me we could not have gathered the most important facts of Jackie's life for the feud and girl love pages. And look for a CBS docudrama, maybe even a feature film about Jackie's life coming your way soon! All very exciting indeed....and an added bonus for NYers--Valley of the Dolls (the play) has finally made it's way from LA to NY...I've heard that it is uproariously funny and really the only bad review I've read of it came from LGNY. And Jackie fans....you need to email LGNY@aol.com about this immediately! For those of you who don't know, Liz, the editor of LGNY is the co-founder of this zine and I don't know maybe it's cuz I stole her copy of the soundtrack to the film version of The Valley of the Dolls when I moved out, but something's happened to her--she's not a Jackie believer anymore! So email her--show her the brilliant Jackie light!
Then again, I'm having my own problems finding my way into the Jackie aesthetic this time around as well. I mean I will always love Jackie cuz thankfully, she never took anything too seriously and these days, I'm getting so tired of everything being so deadly serious and mopey. I mean geez, we all have our bad days but come on if I hear one more whiney Smashing Pumpkins song I'm gonna find Billy Corgan--tie him up and paint a giant smiley face on that bald head of his and then force feed him prozac so that the next LP will be a double lp of like shirley temple covers, "these are a few of my favorite things" sung in 19 languages, and a grunge salute to the musical Annie or something. Maybe i'll just kidnap him and lock him in a room with Burt Bacharach for a week. I don't know but is there a radio station in the world that isn't playing a pumpkins song at this moment? They are everywhere...something has gotta give--it's too much.
Well now with that said...here's my disclaimer for this issue (i know like anyone cares) but this zine was started like 4 years ago...and there were two of us doing the work...then there were like 3 of us to write the zine in the last issue...now everyone is gone but me...so I have to do this all alone and I'm totally overwhelmed. Plus I'm having one of those months (X10) where just getting out of bed is proving to be an extremely difficult task so this issue is really short. In my search for my muse to get this issue finished, I've been reading and listening to a ton of stuff hoping to find that one thing that will spark a storm of creativity and though i didn't find a spark i did find that while i have nothing left to say you should most definitely check out heather lewis, linda yablonsky, cynthia nelson (poet and singer in ruby falls), deb schwartz, sleater-kinney, amy raNae wilson, carla bozulich, carole maso, and laurie weeks, who are all part of a really groovy new wave of dyke/feminist/grrrl writers/poets/performers who are my inspiration (tho i seem to be suffering more from the anxiety of influence than actually experiencing their inspiration) cuz they have tons of things to say and really dramatic new ways of saying them. guess that's it for now...except a big thank you to everyone who has linked to this site or mentioned in print or in person...y'all come back now! xo xo
